Case Acceptance: Chair-to-Front Handoff Toolkit

A toolkit by Kyle Summerford on the handoff from the operatory to the front desk. It explains why the handoff affects case acceptance and lists common breakdowns, such as the dentist leaving without briefing the front desk or the patient walking out unscheduled. It then shows what a good handoff looks like: the dentist stating the problem, solution, and urgency, introducing the next team member, and the treatment coordinator using visual aids or estimates.

Use it as a training aid in a team meeting and as a tracker afterward to see whether the handoff improves. Dentists, assistants, and treatment coordinators should all go through it so the message to the patient stays consistent.
